About Matariki
In Māori culture, Matariki refers to the Pleiades star cluster and marks its first rising in late June or early July, signifying the Māori lunar new year. This time-honoured tradition is a celebration of new beginnings, community, and nature. Historically, it involved observing the stars to forecast the year, mourning those lost, and offering food to replenish the stars' energy.
