Inbetween is and isn’t

Through a large window, we view a fantastical interpretation of the Sydney cityscape. The city buildings have been transformed and melted into a symphony of light and colour, Anna’s ‘Chromatic Concept’ of a city. Despite flowing together many buildings retain their own character, but directly in contrast with the Opera House in the foreground. Inside its shell, the Opera House almost seems on fire! In the background the sky shows a remarkable transition from mauve to pinkish hues, one so subtle that we cannot quite figure out where it happens. Anna wants the viewer to see the city as always something else, constantly changing and evolving into its next incarnation. The title plays on juxtapositions, between night and day, between the Opera House and the city centre, between what is real and surreal. Even the city’s representation inside a window puts it in between a view and a scene.
